Time Management

Updated: Jun 11, 2018

I've never been a planner person. We were required to use them in school, but it was always an additional chore for me that never helped. As some of you know, I've been pretty busy the last couple years, being both a stay at home mom and working full time from home managing a motel. As my son got older and slept less and less during the day, it just kept (and keeps!) getting more difficult to get everything done during the day. It didn't take long for me to get a wall calendar to keep track of appointments, but the little stuff like cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, and actually putting my clean clothes away, was just never happening. Since I have always hated planners, I didn't think having one would be useful at all. Well in November, a PDF version of a planner was highly recommended to me (you just print off the pages you want) and I thought maybe I'd ask for it for Christmas. I got it (Thanks, Mom! 😘) and promptly forgot about it. 🤦‍♀️ March rolled around and I remembered that I had a planner to use, and I printed off a few pages that looked useful. WHAT A LIFE SAVER! 😲 How had I gotten by without it?!?

I have one week open at my desk in the office of the motel, and I can write down EVERYTHING I need to to. Down to what I should have for lunch, so I don't accidentally realize I'm starving as Troy is waking up from his nap. 😩 If I notice an area of housework that need attention, I write that in as the housework priority on an upcoming day, and don't worry about it right then! If I have a lot of phone calls to make, I can write a couple in each day, so it's not so stressful trying to remember all the people I need to call, bills that need to be paid, and appointments I need to make. Just write in one a day over a few days, and all of a sudden, they're all done! As long as I've finished everything in my day, no matter how messy the house is or anything else I feel like I'm behind in, I can take a break and relax, because I know I will finish the other tasks in the coming days. If I don't finish everything, I'll just write it in again on a different day. No big deal!

I have gotten so much better with my work-life balance since I started using it March! (I still have some work to do... but don't we all???)
